My Fall "Gap List"
the best way to be a more intentional shopper plus some bags and shoes I'm eyeing for Fall
Happy Sunday Friends!
I recently learned of the term “gap list” from TikTok and my life is forever changed. Shout out to one my favorite new follows @ladydianamay (she also has a substack
) for posting about this! Personally, in the past I have dealt with a bit of impulse shopping, which always led me to purchase 1) something that I loved in the moment but never ended up wearing or 2) re-purchasing something very similar to something I already owned. This shopping behavior has made it extremely difficult to curate my dream wardrobe and has made it equally as hard to put together outfits because of certain pieces I was missing. Enter: the “gap-list.”A “gap list” is simply a seasonal list you can keep on your phone (in your notes app) of pieces you want/need that will work seamlessly with other items in your closet. These are items that you want to keep in mind as you’re shopping, resulting in a much easier, more seamless shopping experience. Think of this as a checklist and you can be as basic or creative depending on what you envision your seasonal wardrobe looking like. I know this concept seems simple (and if you’re organized, this probably isn’t groundbreaking for you) but what I love so much about this list is that it forces you to be more intentional about your shopping decisions. And that doesn’t mean you need to purchase everything on your list (obviously that is not realistic for most of us), but it can serve as a running list season after season that you can continue to add to or remove as needed.
Example:
My “gap list” is still evolving (though it feels pretty robust at the moment), so I’ll leave you with it below plus a few pieces I’m eyeing this fall (bags + shoes!)…
